Who Should Attend?

The 2012 Hawai‘i Family Financial Empowerment Symposium is intended to bring together a diverse range of caring individuals from communities across the islands – families, youth, policymakers, public agency administrators, community-based practitioners, financial institutions, employers, resource partners – who are interested in and passionate about taking actions to help build the wealth and financial security of Hawai‘i’s working families. Participants from every island and guests from across the nation will share strategies and tools for action to increase family and community self-sufficiency within the unique context of Hawai‘i.

1. State & Local Government – Legislators, Administrators, & Agency Representatives . . . will have the chance to explore demonstrated public sector strategies and initiatives that embed asset building within government programs, services, and systems by leveraging private and community sector partnerships. The 12 local and national members of the Cities For Financial Empowerment Coalition ( will share lessons learned, best practices, and strategies for sustainability.

2. Private Sector – Financial Institutions & Employers . . . will delve into discussions about the roles that they can play in partnership with the public and community sectors to support incentivized savings, financial education/management, and other financial products and support services to help employees, youth, and families strengthen their financial stability and build assets.

3. Community-Based & Faith Based Organizations & Families They Serve . . . will look at technology and information from the field of behavioral engineering to help shape individual and collective asset building actions and connect with community-based groups and public and private sector entities to strengthen their support networks.
