2012 Hawaii State Legislative Session

The Ho’owaiwai Network is tracking the following asset-building and -protection bills introduced in the 2012 Hawaii state legislative session.

Bills Relating to Housing:

Bills Relating to the Creation of a State Bank of Hawaii:

HB1840- Relating to a State Owned Bank Establishes a task force to review, investigate, and study the feasibility and cost of establishing a state-owned bank. Requires a report to the Legislature.

HB2103- Relating to the Bank of the State of Hawaii Establishes the bank of the State of Hawaii. Directs the state bank to develop a program to acquire residential property in situations where the mortgagor is an owner-occupant and the mortgagee is a securitized trust that cannot adequately demonstrate that it is a holder in due course.

SB2178- Relating to Human Services Increases the asset limit for TANF program eligibility from $5,000 to $15,000. Sample testimony can be downloaded in Word here.

HB2685- Relating to Human Services Raises the asset limit for public assistance programs from $5,000 to $10,000.

HB1988- Relating to the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit Requires the department of taxation to coordinate an outreach initiative to increase awareness and use of the federal earned income tax credit. Makes an appropriation.

SB2179- Relating to the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit Requires the department of taxation to coordinate an outreach initiative to increase awareness and use of the federal earned income tax credit. Makes an appropriation.

HCR7- Requesting the Addition of Financial Literacy Education to the Public School Education Curriculum Financial Literacy; Office of Hawaiian Affairs Package

SCR3- Requesting the Addition of Financial Literacy Education to the Public School Education Curriculum Financial Literacy; Office of Hawaiian Affairs Package

SB2592- Relating to Universal Children's Savings Accounts Creates a universal children's savings account program under the department of budget and finance. Sample testimony can be seen here.
